Hotpod Multifuel Stoves
By James Grahame
Giles Perkins just passed this along. H.O.T. Creative Designs is a little firm run by Daniel Harding in St. Ives, Cornwall. Oddly enough, the town web site describes it as having "year round sub-tropical temperatures" - possibly overstating things a bit, hence the need for a clever little heater.
Harding's HOTPOD stove was born out of necessity as he tried to stay warm while living in an old VW surf-bus. After several iterations, he decided to market a limited edition run of 350 units, constructed from recycled gas cylinders and old VW parts. This has to be one of the most useful recycling projects I've seen in a while; usually they're things like machining dominoes out of old battleships or crafting jewelry from yet another old circuit board.
