The Art-O-Mat: A Creative Vending Machine Experience

Art-o-mat The Art-o-mat site proudly describes that their wickedly neat art machines as "retired cigarette vending machines that have been converted to vend art. There are 82 active machines in various locations throughout the country."

Indie artists are encouraged to produce small non mass-produced prints, paintings and sculptures for the company. Each can measure no more than 2 1/8" x 3 1/4" x 7/8. Their site says "Most 2/D artists (painters, printmakers, etc) produce their pieces on wood blocks, while most 3/D artists (sculptors, jewelers, etc.) place their work in our boxes." I was always fond of vending machines as a kid, and these are the grown-up equivalent. You never know quite what you're going to get, but it will be interesting. [thanks, Tom!]
