Extreme Unicycling

Unicycle That's right. Unicycles are gaining popularity as everyday transportation, especially with the development of speedy models with giant wheels and the advent of "freewheeling" platforms that resemble the wheels used in the BC comic strip. You're also likely to find them in the mountains or in challenging urban environments. It'll take you between 5 and 10 hours of practice to control a unicycle and be able to "freemount" (start without requiring support). For some inspiration (and a few good wipe-outs), check out the fantastic online unicycling movie at extreme unicycling.

The model shown here is the $514 Kris Holm 24-inch XC Cross-Country, intended for expert riders. It weighs 13.7 lbs and an optional hydraulic brake is available for an extra $179.
