Handmade Retro HiFi Bookshelf Speakers
By James Grahame
Paul at technabob recently let us know about these rather cool bookshelf speakers shaped like baby Fender Champ guitar amplifiers. The best thing is that each one is "handmade by humans" in Oakland, California and marketed through Etsy (a great place to find utterly cool handmade stuff). The world needs more handmade tech; it lasts longer, is crafted with more care and isn't constructed from cheap plastic in a sweatshop somewhere on the Outer Mongolian Highlands. Not that we have anything against Outer Mongolia, you understand.
Creator Exeluxe says:"I build them with high-quality Audax coaxials, 5 1/4" plus 1" dome tweeter. If you don't know what that means, it means you'll be very pleased with how much better these sound than your Aiwa system speakers. Dimensions are 11.5"x12.5"x7". Custom 'Tolex' coverings and grillcloths available; pricing is for black or brown Tolex with grillcloth as shown."
The standard version sells for $125 each, but you can get custom colors for $30 more.
