Retro Gems From The 2008 Tokyo Toy Show

Gakkenkits

RT colleague Francesco Fondi has been scouring the 2008 Tokyo Toy Show in search of clever vintage gadgets. He tells us, "Gakken showed two new educational kits/toys: a 8mm projector and a Gramophone with a bamboo needle. The kit even comes with special scissors that let anyone create a needle from a bamboo shoot."

Another standout comes from giant Japanese toy manufacturer Bandai. They're showing the prototype of a radio controlled Mecha Godzilla due to hit stores in Japan this December. Fondi reports this reproduction is authentic down to the smallest detail, and the remote control perfectly reproduces the "retro future" style of the Godzilla movies.
