An Expensive (but alluring) AM.FM Tube Radio
By James Grahame
Areaware's 2B table radio was created by Frog Design creative director Jonas Damon, likely inspired by his time working with Braun's minimalist genius Dieter Rams.
It features a trio of vacuum tubes, monaural AM.FM reception, an aux input, a recording output, one largish knob, two smallish knobs and 6W of "no distortion" sound. Oh, and there's a gaping hole in the back so you can admire the glowing tubes in action. Just don't get overly inquisitive and electrocute yourself.
The price, you ask? Three hundred and fifty bucks; enough to buy several Tivoli Model One sets with money left over for a (frugal) night out on the town.
