Alesis A6 Andromeda - One Of The Last Analog Synths?
By James Grahame
There are still a few hardware synthesizers being made. It is extremely difficult to compete with the low cost and flexibility of software, yet some companies continue to thrive because of the incredible ease-of-use and stability of hardware-based instruments.
Alesis surprised the world by introducing the A6 Andromeda high-end analog synthesizer in 2000. This instrument features 16 voices of analog sound under the direction of a high-power Motorola Coldfire processor. Andromeda offers a front panel slathered with knobs, rotary controllers, buttons, and a nice large graphic LCD.
One last thing: It lists for $3499 and I'm considering selling my car to get one. There. I admitted it.
