Ridley Scott Outdoes George Lucas with Blade Runner: The Final Cut
By James Grahame
George Lucas is infamous for regurgitating a never-ending stream of "newly digitally remangled" versions of the original Star Wars trilogy. His masterfully profitable scheme hasn't gone unnoticed, and Ridley Scott and Warner Bros. decided to get in on the action.
The Blade Runner Five-Disc Ultimate Collector's Edition makes Lucas look like a boy scout. It offers five versions of the 1982 cult sci-fi classic, including a newly restored and remastered "final cut" with added & extended scenes, added lines, and new and cleaner special effects. You also get the original theatrical version (with the awkward Hollywood "happy ending" scene), the international version (sans happy ending), and the 1992 Director's Cut with the controversial "Unicorn" sequence. Oh... and don't forget the fifth "Work Print" version which does away with the Unicorn bit, the happy ending, and most of Deckard's narration.
This sci-fi extravaganza is slated for release on December 18, 2007 and is already ranked #13 on Amazon. My family won't be pleased to see me spend half of Christmas day watching the same film over and over and over...
