Don S. wrote to let us know about the vintage photo archives at the Consumer Reports site. This image accompanied a test of eight "private label" TV sets in 1960. The researchers found nothing to justify the reputation these sets had for being better than mass-produced models. The more things change, the more they stay the same... [thanks, Don!]
