RIP: The Floppy Disk (1971-2011)
By James Grahame
Sony recently announced plans to end production of 3.5" floppy disks in March, 2011. What amazes me most is that they still sell about 12 million per year -- there must be a lot of legacy lab gear that still needs them.
I can't honestly remember the last time I bought a floppy. I'm guessing it was sometime in the late 1990s. How about you?
