NintendOscope: Phosphorescent Game Boy


Craig is just your average nanotech PhD candidate. While avoiding work on his doctoral dissertation, he cooked up this brilliant Game Boy display hack. He figured out how to read Game Boy display signals last October, and now he's hooked up an XMega128A1 microcontroller running at 32 MHz to decode the signal and display it on an oscilloscope.

It's not the most practical hack in the world -- there are other less expensive ways to light a Game Boy screen -- but it's definitely the most over-the-top mod I've ever seen for Nintendo's classic handheld. Schematics, source code and words of wisdom are available on his site... just in case you're looking for ways to avoid finishing your own PhD.
